The 2024 revival of Starlight Express required a bespoke performance environment where the cast performs entirely on roller skates. The specially designed Starlight Auditorium at Troubadour Wembley Park Theatre was purpose-built to accommodate the show's unique technical and structural demands, creating an immersive 360-degree experience for audiences.
Scena's engineering and construction team built the complete show floor—a critical element engineered to withstand the constant high-impact skating action throughout multiple performances. The team also constructed the upper mezzanine floor structure and curved ramps, which are essential to the show's dynamic choreography and allow performers to navigate multiple levels at speed on skates.
Scena engineered and installed the mechanics and winching systems for the bridge ramps, enabling seamless scene transitions and dramatic entrances. The scenic art team applied specialized paint finishes to the show floor, ensuring both aesthetic quality and the precise surface properties required for safe, high-performance roller skating night after night.
