FLIGHT CASES

Bespoke Musical Instrument Flight Cases

Bespoke flight cases for guitars, keyboards, drums, brass, strings and orchestral instruments. Each case is shaped around the instrument it carries, with foam cut to its exact profile and a shell built for touring, backline hire and freight. Designed and made in our Croydon workshop.

What Is a Bespoke Musical Instrument Flight Case?

A bespoke instrument flight case is a rigid, made-to-measure transit case built around one specific instrument, or a set of them. The interior is cut to the instrument’s shape so it cannot move, and the exterior is built to take the knocks of loading bays, trucks and aircraft holds. They are used by touring musicians, backline companies, orchestras, theatre pits, schools and rental houses: anyone moving valuable instruments regularly. Off-the-shelf cases are made for standard models. Custom-shop guitars, vintage keyboards, extended-range basses, modified kits and instruments carried with pedals or accessories rarely fit them properly. A loose fit lets the instrument shift in transit, which is where most damage happens. We start with the instrument itself, or detailed measurements of it, and design the foam, case size and hardware around how it is played, packed and transported. Cases are built from plywood panels with aluminium extrusion and steel corners, then fitted with foam cut and shaped by hand. The result is a case that protects against drops, vibration, stacking loads and repeated handling on tour, and that makes load-in and load-out faster.

ENGINEERING DETAIL

01

Neck relief support

The neck sits in a cradle that takes its weight just below the headstock, so the neck joint is not stressed when the case is upright or dropped.

02

Fit tolerance

Foam is cut with minimal clearance so the instrument cannot move, but can still be lifted out easily without catching on hardware or tuners.

03

Orientation planning

Handles, feet and castors are positioned for how the case will actually travel, so it is always carried and stored the way the interior was designed for.

04

Weight balance

In multi-instrument cases, heavier items sit low and centred so the case is stable on castors and safe to lift.

SPECIFY YOUR CASE

Specify Your Musical Instrument Case

Every case is made to order. Tell us the instrument, its make and model, any modifications, what else needs to travel with it, and how it will be transported, and we will design the case around it.

Materials & Finish

Plywood with laminate or HPL faces, aluminium extrusion, steel or ABS corners. Laminate in a range of colours, with screen-printed or engraved branding, artist names, band logos and stencilled identification.

Foam Materials

Polyethylene foam for structural support and shock absorption, softer polyurethane foam for contact faces, and lining options to protect lacquered and vintage finishes. Foam densities are chosen to suit the instrument's weight.

Size & Config

Single-instrument cases, multi-guitar vaults, keyboard and synth cases, drum shell and hardware trunks, and cases for orchestral instruments. Internal dimensions are set by the instrument; external sizes can be planned around truck packs, stage storage or freight limits.

Hardware & Mobility

Recessed spring-loaded handles, butterfly catches, piano hinges, lockable catches, castors on heavier cases and stacking cups for truck packs.

Access & Storage

Top-opening or front-opening lids, removable lids, accessory compartments, cable pockets and lid-mounted storage for setlists, tools and spares.

Musical Instrument Flight Case FAQs

Answers to common questions about specifying, building and using a bespoke instrument case.

Can you build a case for my instrument?

Yes. We make cases for guitars, basses, keyboards, synths, drums, percussion, brass, woodwind and orchestral instruments, including vintage, custom and modified models.

What materials or foam do you use?

Shells are plywood with laminate or HPL faces, aluminium extrusion and steel corners. Interiors use polyethylene foam for support with softer foam or lining on contact surfaces to protect the finish.

Can the case be adapted to my equipment?

Yes. Every case is designed around your instrument and anything that travels with it, such as pedalboards, stands, leads or spares.

Is the case suitable for touring, shipping, or air freight?

Yes. Our cases are built for touring and freight. If your case needs to meet airline size or weight limits, tell us at the outset and we will design to them.
